Return of the Night Bus: Improving nightlife accessibility in our City Region
Thanks to the resounding support from across the city region, we are thrilled to announce the relaunch of the night bus service, set to commence service from Friday 9th December onwards!
This late-night service marks a pivotal step towards boosting the vitality of the region’s nighttime economy. It offers a convenient and affordable travel option for visitors frequenting bars, clubs, live music venues, theatres, and those working in these establishments during late hours.
Operated by Stagecoach, the new N1 Night Bus service will bridge South Liverpool, Liverpool City Centre, and Birkenhead, facilitating a cross-river service connecting Liverpool to Wirral.
Running in the early morning hours every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, the service is priced at just £2 for a single fare, presenting an incredibly economical transport option.
Dr. Mathew Flynn, a member of the LCR Music Board and Senior Lecturer in Music Industries, expressed his thoughts on this significant development: “Following LCR Music Board’s music venues consultation event in March 2022, which highlighted the critical need for improved nighttime transport, our collective efforts — from both music board members, colleagues at the University of Liverpool, Future Yard, Nightlife CIC and the Civic Data Cooperative – have been tirelessly dedicated to advocating for and developing a business plan to support the revival of the Night Bus.
“We are thrilled to see the campaign materialise. We anticipate that this development will significantly enhance music venue footfall, bolster ticket sales, and crucially, ensure the provision of safe late-night transport options for both gig-goers, the invaluable staff at these venues and the wider student and nighttime worker communities.”
The Music Board extends its gratitude to everyone who participated in the ‘Bring Back Night Buses?’ consultation. We hope this service will be widely utilised by gig-goers, music venue staff, and event attendees, contributing to the continued support and growth of our music ecosystem.
