LCR Music Board pays tribute to Owen Moran
The LCR Music Board would like to send their condolences and deepest sympathy to the family and friends of musician Owen Moran (62) who sadly passed away recently.
Owen was the bass guitarist and singer in Liverpool band, Cook Da Books, who were championed by the likes of Janice Long and John Peel. With fellow members, Pete ‘Digsy’ Deary, John Leggett and Tony Prescott, the group gained notoriety with their politically charged debut single ‘Piggie in the Middle 8’ which was about the Toxteth riots in 1981.
The band recorded John Peel sessions and released a number of singles on the Liverpool based Probe Record label. Their track ‘Your Eyes’ featured in a French film in 1982, giving them a major hit in France. They were very active on the live local music scene throughout the 1980s, touring as support performances to many major acts in Europe and America.
